Salit Metals stocks a wide variety of carbon steel plate and sheet: A1011 cs ty.b, A36, A572 Gr. 50, and AR400 plate, hot rolled, cold rolled, and galvanized sheet from 24 gauge through 2" thick, plus diamond plate.
Plate & Sheet Metal
  • Steel plate: 3/16" – 2"
  • Steel sheet: 24 ga. – 7 ga.
  • Diamond plate: 1/8" – 3/4"

Steel Plate - A36, A572 & AR400

Steel plate is the heavy end of the range - 3/16" and up - for base plates, gussets, machine bases, counterweights, liners, and repair work.

A36 steel plate. The everyday structural grade: 36 ksi yield, predictable and easy to work.

A572 Gr. 50 plate. High-strength low-alloy at 50 ksi yield - more strength without more thickness.

AR400 plate. Abrasion-resistant plate for chutes, hoppers, buckets, scraper edges, and anywhere material flow eats ordinary steel.

Also available: A709 and A588 (weathering) structural grades.

Common thicknesses on the floor: 3/16", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", ⅝”, ¾”, 1” and up to 2".

Steel Sheet - Hot Rolled, Cold Rolled & Galvanized

Sheet covers the lighter gauges - 24 ga. up to 7 ga. - for enclosures, panels, guards, ductwork, and bodywork-style repairs.

We stock hot rolled (A1011), cold rolled (A1008) for cleaner finish and tighter tolerance, and galvanized and galvannealed sheet for corrosion resistance.

Plate or sheet - which do I have?

The line sits around 3/16". Thinner is sheet (called out in gauge), 3/16" and up is plate (called out in fractions of an inch).

Diamond Plate

Diamond plate - tread plate, floor plate - puts a raised pattern on the surface for grip and wear: truck beds and toolboxes, trailer decks, ramps, stair treads, and shop floors.

We stock steel diamond plate from 1/8" through 3/4". Cut-to-size here too, so bring your deck or tread dimensions.

Steel Plate & Sheet FAQs

What's the difference between steel plate and steel sheet?
Thickness. Sheet runs to about 3/16" and is measured in gauge. Plate is 3/16" and up, measured in inches.

What is A36 steel plate?
The standard ASTM structural grade - 36 ksi minimum yield, weldable-quality carbon steel that covers most general plate work. We stock it alongside higher-strength A572 Gr. 50 and abrasion-resistant AR400.

Do you sell 4x8 steel sheet and plate?
Yes - 4' × 8' is a common stocked sheet, and we also cut to smaller blanks on request. Our common sheet and plate sizes are 4’ x 8’, 4’ x 10’, 5’ x 10’, 6’ x 12’.

What is diamond plate used for?
Anywhere you need grip and wear resistance: truck and trailer decks, ramps, stair treads, toolboxes, walkways.

Can you cut plate to size?
Yes - cut-to-size is standard, from single blanks to production runs.

Do you deliver?
Daily across Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, and Western and Central NY. Or pick up in Rochester.
